PTSD is a disorder that is caused by exposure to a traumatic event, a series of traumatic events, or consistent exposure to disturbing stories or images.
A person suffering from PTSD may have symptoms that include hypervigilance, avoidance of people or places, nightmares and flashbacks, anxiety, panic attacks, persistent negative thoughts, anger, poor concentration, and self-destructive behaviors. There are multiple effective treatments including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Brainspotting.
